Question [CLICK ON ANY CHOICE TO KNOW THE RIGHT ANSWER]
(24.14 ) How did the government imposing the Tariff of 1828/Tariff of Abominations have different impacts on the North and the South? Your answer should include the effects on both regions of the country.
A
In the North, they had more business because of the Tariff because more people would buy domestic goods (which they made in the North) because they were cheaper. In the South, they had less business because they imported goods that were made from their cotton from Europe and they could no longer get those goods sent back for little amounts of money. (GOOD FOR NORTH, BAD FOR SOUTH)
B
In the North and South, they didn’t get any business at all because of the tariffs (BAD FOR BOTH)
C
In the North and South business boomed and they got more money. (GOOD FOR BOTH)
D
In the North, they had less business because of the tariff because more people bought European goods because they were cheaper. In the South, they had more business because they imported goods that were made from their cotton from Europe and they could get those goods for even cheaper. (BAD FOR NORTH, GOOD FOR SOUTH)
Explanation:

Detailed explanation-1: -The tariff sought to protect northern and western agricultural products from competition with foreign imports; however, the resulting tax on foreign goods would raise the cost of living in the South and would cut into the profits of New England’s industrialists.

Detailed explanation-2: -The 1828 tariff was part of a series of tariffs that began after the War of 1812 and the Napoleonic Wars, when the blockade of Europe led British manufacturers to offer goods in America at low prices that American manufacturers often could not match.

Detailed explanation-3: -How did the Tariff of 1828 affect the South? What did they call this tariff? The tariff forced Southerners to pay taxes on the manufactured good they received from England in exchange for their cotton. They called the tariff the Tariff of Abominations.

Detailed explanation-4: -The Tariff of Abominations did not lead to any extreme action (such as secession) by the state of South Carolina. The 1828 tariff greatly increased resentment toward the North, a feeling which persisted for decades and helped to lead the nation toward the Civil War.
