Detailed explanation-1: -Under EIA 2006, the validity of prior environmental clearance granted to a river valley project or activity was 10 years, for mining, a maximum of 30 years and seven years for other projects.

Detailed explanation-2: -The clearance granted shall be valid for a period of five years for commencements of the construction or operation of the project. The process is summarised in Figure 2.1: Environmental clearance process in India. Involvement of the public is one of the fundamental principles of a successful EIA process.
