Detailed explanation-1: -The symbol of the Indian rupee came into vague on 15th July 2010. The new symbol is an amalgamation of Devanagri ‘Ra’ and the Roman ‘R’ without the stem. The new symbol designed by D Udaya Kumar, a post-graduate of IIT Bombay was finally selected by the Union Cabinet on 15th July 2010.
Detailed explanation-2: -Before its adoption, the most commonly used symbols for the rupee were Rs, Re or, in texts in Indian languages, an appropriate abbreviation in the language used. The design is based on the Devanagari letter “” (ra) with a double horizontal line at the top and the Latin capital letter “R” without its vertical bar.
