Detailed explanation-1: -The temple was built by king Narasimhadeva I of the Eastern Ganga Dynasty. Konark Sun Temple is located close to the sea and hence the European sailors used this fabulous temple as a navigational point. The temple’s shrine or the great tower appeared black in color and hence it was called the Black Pagoda.
