Detailed explanation-1: -Dadabhai Naoroji affectionately known as “The Grand Old Man of India", was an ardent patriot, a great social and political reformer and a prominent nationalist of progressive views. He was the first Indian to be elected to the British Parliament, the first Indian to sit on a Royal Commission (the Welby Commission).

Detailed explanation-2: -Roy was also Mahatma Gandhi’s personal doctor and friend. In 1925, Roy ran for elections from the Barrackpore Constituency as an independent candidate for the Bengal Legislative Council and defeated the “Grand Old Man of Bengal, ‘’ Surendranath Banerjee.

Detailed explanation-3: -Naoroji was one of the first Indian political activists. He was a moderate leader in the Congress although he was very vocal in his criticism of British policies in India. He acted as a mentor to Mahatma Gandhi, Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Gopal Krishna Gokhale. He died in 1917 in Bombay aged 91.
