Detailed explanation-1: -The same system was followed till British took over the power of India. The promulgation of Regulating Act of 1773 by the King of England paved the way for establishment of the Supreme Court of Judicature at Calcutta.
Detailed explanation-2: -The Supreme Court at Calcutta was established on 22 October 1774 by the Regulating Act of 1773. The drawback of this act was that the powers of SC were not clearly defined. It replaced the Mayer’s Court of Calcutta. Sir Elijah Impey was the first judge of this court.
