Detailed explanation-1: -This is one of the first turbojet engines. British engineer Sir Frank Whittle patented his pioneering design in 1932. The engine first flew on the E. 28/39 in 1941 marking the unofficial first flight of a British jet aircraft.
Detailed explanation-2: -He studied engineering at Cambridge University and registered a patent for a new kind of engine for aeroplanes in 1930. He founded a company ‘Power Jets Ltd’ in 1936; their design staff worked at Brownsover Hall and made use of facilities at the British Thomson-Houston factory in Rugby.
Detailed explanation-3: -The DRDO assigned the lead development responsibility to its Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), which had some experience in developing jet engines. It had developed the GTX37-14U after-burning turbojet, which first ran in 1977, and was the first jet engine to be designed entirely in India.
