Detailed explanation-1: -Meaning. Offences for which the police are empowered to make an arrest without a warrant or prior permission of the court are known as cognizable offences. Offences for which the police cannot make an arrest without the prior permission of the court are known as non-cognizable offences. Provision. Section 2(c) of CrPC .
