Detailed explanation-1: -On 26 March 1971, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared independence on radio after, Pakistan launched a crackdown on East Pakistan called Operation Searchlight and declared martial law, which was heard by only a limited number of people due to the broadcasting system used.

Detailed explanation-2: -Before this the area that is now Bangladesh was known as East Pakistan. In March 1971 the liberation war started, which lasted for nine months and ended with Bangladesh officially having its status as an independent nation recognised on 16 Dec 1971.
