Concept note-1: -In April 1862, during the Civil War, a U.S. Navy force under the command of Flag-Officer David G. Farragut captured the Confederate city of New Orleans, Louisiana.

Concept note-2: -The capture of New Orleans on April 29, 1862 gave Union forces under Flag Officer David Glasgow Farragut and Major General Benjamin Franklin Butler control of the Confederacy’s largest port on the Mississippi River.

Concept note-3: -After defeating the Confederates at the Battle of Forts Jackson and St. Philip, Farragut captured New Orleans in April 1862.

Concept note-4: -Gen. Benjamin Butler occupied the city of New Orleans with an army of 5, 000, facing no resistance. Butler was a former Democratic party official, lawyer, and state legislator. He was one of the first Major Generals of Volunteers of the Civil War appointed by Abraham Lincoln.

Concept note-5: -The campaign that resulted from the Seven Days’ Battles in 1862, that drove McClellan back to sea, and forced him to flee back to Washington. A Union fleet led by David Farragut captured New Orleans, the largest city in the South and a major transportation route.
