How did the Emancipation Proclamation affect the war?

Concept note-1: -From the first days of the Civil War, enslaved people had acted to secure their own liberty. The Emancipation Proclamation confirmed their insistence that the war for the Union must become a war for freedom. It added moral force to the Union cause and strengthened the Union both militarily and politically.

Concept note-2: -The Proclamation broadened the goals of the Union war effort; it made the eradication of slavery into an explicit Union goal, in addition to the reuniting of the country. The Proclamation also prevented European forces from intervening in the war on behalf of the Confederacy.

Concept note-3: -Impact of the Emancipation Proclamation Black Americans were permitted to serve in the Union Army for the first time, and nearly 200, 000 would do so by the end of the war. Finally, the Emancipation Proclamation paved the way for the permanent abolition of slavery in the United States.
