Concept note-1: -Lincoln’s address lasted somewhat more than a minute. He used only ten sentences, 267 words. Although it was not a poem, he used poetic devices to increase the power of his words.

Concept note-2: -Some 15, 000 people heard his speech. Less than 275 words in length, Lincoln’s three-minute-long Gettysburg Address defined the meaning of the Civil War.

Concept note-3: -At the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC, the text of the Gettysburg Address is carved into one of the walls beside the statue of President Lincoln. Lincoln’s speech lasted only two minutes, and contained only 272 words; one of the other speakers at the event, Edward Everett, spoke for two hours.
