Concept note-1: -The scientific method is the process of objectively establishing facts through testing and experimentation. The basic process involves making an observation, forming a hypothesis, making a prediction, conducting an experiment and finally analyzing the results.
Concept note-2: -It involves testing or attempting to prove a hypothesis by way of experimentation. As such, it uses one or more independent variables, manipulating them and then using them on one or more dependent variables.
Concept note-3: -Each controlled experiment looks at the effect of one variable (the independent variable) on some event or condition (the dependent variable). So the independent variable is the factor being tested and the dependent variable is the factor being observed and measured.
Concept note-4: -Franklin argues that a good experiment must be methodologically good. Without good reasons to believe an experimental result it can play no valid role in science. Franklin also suggests that a good experiment should contribute to scientific knowledge, although that is a desideratum not a requirement.
