EXPLANATIONS BELOW

Concept note-1: -Reveille, from the French word ‘reveillez’, meaning to ‘wake-up’, was originally played as a drum beat just prior to daybreak. Its purpose is to wake up the sleeping soldiers and to let the sentries know that they could cease challenging.

Concept note-2: -Reveille or Rouse Today, the Rouse is associated with the last Post at all military funerals and services of Dedication and remembrance. It is played on the completion of one minute’s silence, after the Last Post has been sounded. It calls the soldier’s spirit to rise and prepare for another day.

Concept note-3: -PURPOSE OF BUGLE CALLS FIRST CALL-Sounded as a warning for Soldiers to begin assembling for a formation. REVEILLE-Signals the Soldiers to awaken for morning roll call and accompanies the raising of the National Flag. RECALL-Signals that the present period of physical training, duties, or drill is over.

Concept note-4: -The Rouse is a bugle call played at memorial services in conjunction with the Last Post. The Rouse being sounded is used to call soldiers to their duties. In Australian military tradition, Reveille is only to be used at Anzac Day services or the waking of the troops (beginning of the day).
