EXPLANATIONS BELOW

Concept note-1: -Martin Luther King, Jr.: I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation. Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation.

Concept note-2: -Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech is one very famous example of parallel structure: I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."

Concept note-3: -Martin Luther King uses pathos in his speech by sharing the experiences of African Americans who have faced discrimination and segregation. He talks about how African Americans have been “seared in the flames of withering injustice” and how they are still not free even 100 years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

Concept note-4: -The sun symbolizes enlightenment and a bright future in which all people are equal. In addition, quicksand symbolizes a trap from which it is hard to rise, while the “solid rock of brotherhood” is a dependable and stable goal toward which they strive.
