Concept note-1: -Martin Luther King uses pathos in his speech by sharing the experiences of African Americans who have faced discrimination and segregation. He talks about how African Americans have been “seared in the flames of withering injustice” and how they are still not free even 100 years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
Concept note-2: -In another visually powerful metaphor, he compares injustice to being a desert while justice is an oasis of water. “I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a desert state, sweltering with the heat of injustice and oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.”
Concept note-3: -Hyperbole in “I Have a Dream” Speech When America has racial justice, all imperfect formations will be perfected: “I Have a Dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, and every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight."
Concept note-4: -Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech is one very famous example of parallel structure: I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."
