When Lincoln says the living should be dedicated to the “unfinished work, “ what does he mean by “unfinished work?”

Concept note-1: -So instead of coming to dedicate the ground, Lincoln says that the people are there to be dedicated to “the unfinished work” of the devoted soldiers-that is, the preservation of the Union and its ideals of liberty and equality.

Concept note-2: -The unfinished work is the work that was started in 1776 when the United States was first formed. The work that was started 1n 1776 was a democracy founded on the beliefs stated in the declaration of independence that all men are created equal.

Concept note-3: -What is the “unfinished work” of those who died? Fighting to reunite the northern and southern states to one nation. What does Lincoln mean by “a new birth of freedom"? The hope that once the battles have been fought, we can live in peace and harmony together.
