Concept note-1: -The Battle of Appomattox Court House started during the early morning hours of April 9, 1865. By the afternoon of the same day, General Robert E. Lee, commander of all Confederate forces, surrendered his Army of Northern Virginia to Lieutenant General Ulysses S. Grant.

Concept note-2: -The Battle of Appomattox Court House was fought on April 9, 1865, near the town of Appomattox Court House, Virginia, and led to Confederate General Robert E. Lee’s surrender of his Army of Northern Virginia to Union General Ulysses S. Grant.

Concept note-3: -April 9th, 1865, was the end of the Civil War for General Robert E. Lee and the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia.

Concept note-4: -The surrender at Appomattox took place a week later on April 9. While it was the most significant surrender to take place during the Civil War, Gen. Robert E. Lee, the Confederacy’s most respected commander, surrendered only his Army of Northern Virginia to Union Gen. Ulysses S.
