Concept note-1: -The Battle of Vicksburg was a decisive Union victory during the American Civil War that divided the Confederacy and cemented the reputation of Union General Ulysses S. Grant.
Concept note-2: -Grant marched towards the final goal of his campaign: Vicksburg. Taking this Southern stronghold would allow the Union to control the Mississippi River and boost Northern morale. After a series of battles, Grant’s troops forced General Pemberton’s Confederate army to retreat into the defenses surrounding Vicksburg.
Concept note-3: -On May 19, 1863, Union General Ulysses S. Grant attacked Vicksburg–a direct assault with intent to take over the city. The Union navy had already prevented other regiments from joining Confederate General C. Pemberton at Vicksburg, but the Southern city held strong that day.
