Concept note-1: -After the fall of Richmond, the Confederate capital, on April 2, 1865, officials in the Confederate government, including President Jefferson Davis, fled. The dominoes began to fall. The surrender at Appomattox took place a week later on April 9.

Concept note-2: -Appomattox County, VA | Apr 9, 1865. Trapped by the Federals near Appomattox Court House, Confederate general Robert E. Lee surrendered his army to Union general Ulysses S. Grant, precipitating the capitulation of other Confederate forces and leading to the end of the bloodiest conflict in American history.

Concept note-3: -"The Surrender” painting by Keith Rocco shows Generals Lee and Grant shaking hands near the end of the meeting. April 9th, 1865, was the end of the Civil War for General Robert E. Lee and the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia.

Concept note-4: -In Appomattox, Virginia, on April 9, 1865, Robert E. Lee surrenders his 28, 000 Confederate troops to Union General Ulysses S. Grant, effectively ending the American Civil War.

Concept note-5: -Confederate President Jefferson Davis fled Richmond, Virginia, following its evacuation in the early part of April 1865. On May 5, 1865, in Washington, Georgia, Davis had held the last meeting of his Cabinet. At that time, the Confederate government was declared dissolved.
