EXPLANATIONS BELOW

Concept note-1: -The Baltimore Plot was a conspiracy in late February 1861 to assassinate President-elect Abraham Lincoln en route to his inauguration. Allan Pinkerton, founder of the Pinkerton National Detective Agency, played a key role by managing Lincoln’s security throughout the journey.

Concept note-2: -Along with friends Samuel Arnold, Michael O’Laughlin and John Surratt, Booth conspired to kidnap Lincoln and deliver him to the South. On March 17, along with George Atzerodt, David Herold and Lewis Powell, the group met in a Washington bar to plot the abduction of the president three days later.

Concept note-3: -On March 20, 1865, John Wilkes Booth planned to kidnap President Abraham Lincoln. After Lincoln was elected in 1860, he began to receive many threats on his life. Though there were a few attempts, he never took the threats seriously.

Concept note-4: -1. Booth initially planned to kidnap Lincoln. After meeting with Confederate spies in the summer of 1864, Booth spearheaded a plot to abduct Lincoln, bring him to the Confederate capital of Richmond, Virginia, and use him as a bargaining chip to secure the release of rebel prisoners.
