Who is William T. Sherman?

(A) ** The Union general who led the destructive “march to the sea” from Atlanta in an effort to divide the south.

EXPLANATIONS BELOW

Concept note-1: -Contents. From November 15 until December 21, 1864, Union General William T. Sherman led some 60, 000 soldiers on a 285-mile march from Atlanta to Savannah, Georgia. The purpose of Sherman’s March to the Sea was to frighten Georgia’s civilian population into abandoning the Confederate cause.

Concept note-2: -But the way to the sea was not open; Sherman still had to contend with the Confederate army of Lt. Gen. John Bell Hood. So Sherman proposed to split his Union force, taking 62, 000 of his best troops on a destructive march, while Maj.

Concept note-3: -William Tecumseh Sherman was a Union general during the Civil War, playing a crucial role in the victory over the Confederate States and becoming one of the most famous military leaders in U.S. history.
