(B) ** Many foreign nations were opposed to slavery and would not support a nation where slavery was legal.
(C) Many foreign nations were still actively involved in the slave trade and did not appreciate Abraham Lincoln’s strong stance against slavery.
(D) Many foreign nations were hoping to trade with the Confederacy because of their valuable cotton crops.
Concept note-1: -The International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, 2 December, marks the date of the adoption, by the General Assembly, of the United Nations Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others (resolution 317(IV) of 2 December 1949).
Concept note-2: -Modern slavery is a crime and a violation of fundamental human rights. It takes various forms, such as slavery, servitude, forced and compulsory labour and human trafficking, all of which have in common the deprivation of a person’s liberty by another in order to exploit them for personal or commercial gain.
