Concept note-1: -The strategy of the Civil War for the Confederacy (the South) was to outlast the political will of the United States (the North) to continue the fighting the war by demonstrating that the war would be long and costly.

Concept note-2: -The top general for the South was General Robert E. Lee of Virginia, who led the Army of Northern Virginia. Lee was able to command his troops to a handful of victories despite the overwhelming size and strength of the Union Army.

Concept note-3: -Confederacy-Its goal was to secure independence from the North and to establish an independent nation free from Northern political oppression and the repression of slavery.
