EXPLANATIONS BELOW
Concept note-1: -Union victory also ensured continuing support for the international abolishment of racial slavery. As the Confederacy collapsed, U.S. leaders were able to shift resources to resisting French intervention in Mexico and to deploy troops along the Texas-Mexico border.
Concept note-2: -The agreement, however, went beyond military terms and the surrender of Johnston’s army. The agreement applied to any (read all) Confederate armies still in existence. The troops would disband and return to their state capitals, where they were to deposit their arms and public property at the state arsenals.
Concept note-3: -Although additional battles ensued afterward, the Battle of Gettysburg was the most pivotal, as it marked a turning point in the Civil War. Eventually, almost 2 years later in April 1865, the Confederate army surrendered their last army, resulting in the end of the Civil War.
Concept note-4: -On April 12, 1861, forces from the Confederate States of America attacked the United States military garrison at Fort Sumter, South Carolina. Less than two days later, the fort surrendered. No one was killed. The battle, however, started the Civil War, the bloodiest conflict in American history.
