Why did the second Battle of Bull Run occur?

(A) John Pope knew that a Confederate force was coming

(B) because two armies(one north and one south) happened to run into each other at mananas

(C) ** “As a large Union force commanded by John Pope waited for George McClellan’s Army of the Potomac in anticipation of a combined offensive, Confederate General Robert E. Lee decided to strike first.”

(D) the same reason the first battle occurred

EXPLANATIONS BELOW

Concept note-1: -The Battle of Second Bull Run marked the culmination of a summer of successes for the main Confederate field army in the east. The Army of Northern Virginia had defeated the Union Army of the Potomac outside of Richmond then proceeded to almost destroy the Army of Virginia on the fields near Bull Run.

Concept note-2: -Pope became convinced that he had trapped Jackson and concentrated the bulk of his army against him. On August 29, Pope launched a series of assaults against Jackson’s position along an unfinished railroad grade.
