Why was the North in shock after the battle?

(A) ** They felt they were stronger and would have easily won the battle, but the Confederate win through them off

(B) They were surprised with their victory and believed they were going to lose

(C) They were happy that the Confederate’s won and were going to celebrate

(D) They were elated about their win and was ready to support the troops with their return

Concept note-1: -The North had geographic advantages, too. It had more farms than the South to provide food for troops. Its land contained most of the country’s iron, coal, copper, and gold. The North controlled the seas, and its 21, 000 miles of railroad track allowed troops and supplies to be transported wherever they were needed.

Concept note-2: -Possible Contributors to the North’s Victory: The North was more industrial and produced 94 percent of the USA’s pig iron and 97 percent of its firearms. The North even had a richer, more varied agriculture than the South. The Union had a larger navy, blocking all efforts from the Confederacy to trade with Europe.

Concept note-3: -The St. Albans Raid was the northernmost land action of the American Civil War. It was a raid from the Province of Canada by 21 Confederate soldiers. They had recently failed in engagements with the Union Army and evaded subsequent capture in the United States.

Concept note-4: -The North’s greatest strength in the Civil War was its: economy. The greatest weakness of the South during the civil war was its: economy.
