Concept note-1: -Push and pull factors A major reason why people migrate is income differences between origin and destination countries. Richer countries attract more immigrants, especially from countries with younger populations. Countries with lower per capita income experience more emigration, but only if they are not too poor.
Concept note-2: -Push factors for “new” immigrants included wars and political turmoil, religious persecution, and land reform that forced farmers off their land. Pull factors were religious and political freedom, plenty of work, family or friends already established here, and great expanses of land.
