Concept note-1: -Often called the Crossroads of the Pacific, the state is strategically important to the global defense system of the United States and serves as a transportation hub of the Pacific basin. Finally, Hawaii is a cultural centre and a major tourist mecca.
Concept note-2: -A key provisioning spot for American whaling ships, fertile ground for American protestant missionaries, and a new source of sugar cane production, Hawaii’s economy became increasingly integrated with the United States.
Concept note-3: -Those in favor argued that Hawaii was ideally located as a gateway to Eastern markets and could provide rich commercial advantages.
