Concept note-1: -In 1895, William Randolph Hearst purchased the paper to compete with Joseph Pulitzer’s New York World. The New York Journal is an example of “Yellow Journalism, ” where the newspapers competed for readers through bold headlines, illustrations, and activist journalism.

Concept note-2: -association with the “New York World” Randolph Hearst bought the competing New York Journal in 1895, he lured Pulitzer’s celebrated Sunday newspaper staff to the Journal with the promise of raises; all but one secretary accepted Hearst’s offer.

Concept note-3: -(1863-1951) William Randolph Hearst, the man who conceived Hearst Castle, was a media genius whose influence extended to publishing, politics, Hollywood, the art world and everyday American life.

Concept note-4: -Hearst entered the Chicago market in 1900 by establishing the Chicago American, an evening paper; in 1902, he started a morning edition, the Chicago Examiner. In 1918, Hearst also bought the long-established Chicago Herald and merged it with his morning paper to form the Herald-Examiner.
