Concept note-1: -Usage. Although used before his presidency, Roosevelt used military muscle several times throughout his two terms with a more subtle touch to complement his diplomatic policies and enforcing the Monroe Doctrine throughout multiple interventions in Latin America.
Concept note-2: -Roosevelt visiting the Panama Canal construction site In 1904, the US took over a massive overseas building project-a ship canal in Panama that would connect the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean.
Concept note-3: -Roosevelt’s “big stick diplomacy” signified that the U.S. would negotiate peacefully but maintain strength to exert when needed.
Concept note-4: -Roosevelt encouraged a revolt in Panama to gain freedom from Columbia using implied Constitutional powers. He also added his Corollary to the Monroe doctrine to include involvement in foreign affairs. His acts of diplomacy helped acquire the Isthmus of Panama and retain workers to build the canal.
