Concept note-1: -And the annexations continued: Alaska (1867), the 1898–99 acquisitions (Philippines, Guam, Puerto Rico, Hawai’i, American Samoa), the Panama Canal Zone (1903), the Virgin Islands (1917), and the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands (1947).
Concept note-2: -The renewed push to expand territorial control included not only the earlier colonial powers of western Europe but also newcomers such as Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, and the United States.
Concept note-3: -There were new crops; tools and farming methods, which helped, increase food production. These changes meant less death to smaller colonies, and overall improve the state of living. They now could live longer and have better sanitation compared to the earlier imperialism.
