Concept note-1: -’Moral’ diplomacy is a form of diplomacy proposed by President Woodrow Wilson in his 1912 United States presidential election. Moral diplomacy is the system in which support is given only to countries whose beliefs are analogous to that of the nation.

Concept note-2: -From Haiti, to the Dominican Republic, to Nicaragua, to Panama, to Cuba, Wilson intervened under the principles of ‘moral diplomacy’.

Concept note-3: -In the end, moral diplomacy increased the U.S.’s direct military action in many countries and also greatly impacted the economy by manipulating situations in countries that were not democratic or those that held what Wilson viewed as morally corrupt values.

Concept note-4: -Moral Diplomacy Examples One of the best examples of President Wilson’s moral diplomacy was seen in 1914, when he refused to recognize Victoriano Huerta as the President of Mexico, for―according to him, Huerta had taken over by force. He used the clout of American navy to force Huerta to vacate.

Concept note-5: -The Dollar Diplomacy wanted to increase American investments in businesses and banks throughout Central America and the Caribbean, by substituting dollars for bullets. The Moral Diplomacy did not want to take any land by conquest, but ended up having the right to control Haiti’s financial and foreign affairs.
