Concept note-1: -With its triumph in the Mexican-American War, the United States seemingly realized its Manifest Destiny by gaining an immense domain (more than 525, 000 square miles [1, 360, 000 square km] of land), including present-day Arizona, California, western Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, and Utah.
Concept note-2: -Manifest Destiny was the idea that white Americans were divinely ordained to settle the entire continent of North America. The ideology of Manifest Destiny inspired a variety of measures designed to remove or destroy the native population.
Concept note-3: -Manifest Destiny also became a justification for the aggressively expansionist policies of President James Polk (1845-1849), who oversaw the annexation of Texas, the acquisition of the Oregon Territory from Great Britain, and the Mexican Cession of much of the Southwestern U.S. after the Mexican-American War.
