EXPLANATIONS BELOW

Concept note-1: -Two popular ideologies contributed to imperialism: a feeling of cultural superiority and a sense of nationalism. Jose Marti was a leader, an exile, and a soldier who inspired fellow Cubans to revolt against Spain.

Concept note-2: -The relationship between imperialism and nationalism has often been portrayed by theorists of nationalism and post colonial discourse theorists as antagonistic. Anti-democratic, aggressive empires impose their will on subject peoples who, in response, form nationalist movements in opposition to this imperialism.

Concept note-3: -The imposition of Christianity on cultures with other religions. Imposing educational material in English on the colonies, promoting the values and history of the empire through books. Imposing the British dress code and sports (e.g., rugby).

Concept note-4: -Imperialism results from a complex of causes in which in varying degrees economic pressures, human aggressiveness and greed, the search for security, the drive for power and prestige, nationalist emotions, humanitarianism, and many other factors are effective.

Concept note-5: -Nationalism and Imperialism are two important yet distinct ideologies that have shaped the geopolitical world. Both have led to the annexation of lands and the formation of national borders.
