In 1893, a group of planters and businessmen, mostly United States citizens, launched a coup against the monarch of an island nation.

Concept note-2: -The primary reason the US advocated the Open Door Policy was to protect and broaden US trade with China. This policy was put into effect in the early 20th century after the Boxer Rebellion in China.

Concept note-3: -These Open Door Notes aimed to secure international agreement to the U.S. policy of promoting equal opportunity for international trade and commerce in China, and respect for China’s administrative and territorial integrity.
