EXPLANATIONS BELOW
Concept note-1: -Cubans reluctantly included the amendment, which virtually made Cuba a U.S. protectorate, in their constitution. The Platt Amendment was also incorporated in a permanent treaty between the United States and Cuba.
Concept note-2: -Although the United States promised it would not annex Cuba after victory, it did require Cuba to permit significant American intervention in Cuban affairs. As a result of the war, the United States acquired Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines as territories.
Concept note-3: -The Platt Amendment was passed in 1901 after the Spanish-American War. The United States declared war on Spain in 1898, which led to more direct involvement in Cuba.
