Concept note-1: -The United States also annexed the independent state of Hawaii during the conflict. Thus, the war enabled the United States to establish its predominance in the Caribbean region and to pursue its strategic and economic interests in Asia.

Concept note-2: -The reasons for war were many, but there were two immediate ones: America’s support the ongoing struggle by Cubans and Filipinos against Spanish rule, and the mysterious explosion of the battleship U.S.S. Maine in Havana Harbor.

Concept note-3: -What was one economic effect of the Spanish-American War? Shipbuilding industries in the United States declined. The United States gained direct access to additional natural resources and overseas markets. Demand for coal and petroleum as energy sources declined.
