EXPLANATIONS BELOW

Concept note-1: -The Dual Alliance (German: Zweibund, Hungarian: Kettős Szövetség) was a defensive alliance between Germany and Austria-Hungary, which was created by treaty on October 7, 1879, as part of Germany’s Otto von Bismarck’s system of alliances to prevent or limit war.

Concept note-2: -Along with their alliance with Russia, Bismarck and Germany developed an alliance with Italy and Austria-Hungary. This became known as the ‘Triple Alliance’ in 1882.

Concept note-3: -Triple Alliance, secret agreement between Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy formed in May 1882 and renewed periodically until World War I. Germany and Austria-Hungary had been closely allied since 1879. Italy sought their support against France shortly after losing North African ambitions to the French.

Concept note-4: -Answer and Explanation: The principal objective of Bismarck’s alliance system was to protect Germany in case it was attacked by Russia. Another principal objective was to avoid another military conflict with France.

Concept note-5: -The man chiefly responsible for the Triple Alliance was Otto von Bismarck, the Chancellor of Germany. His primary goal was to preserve the status quo in Europe after he had unified Germany in 1871. He was particularly concerned about France finding allies to help it regain Alsace-Lorraine.
