Concept note-1: -A suspect, a 19-year old Bosnian-Serb named Gavrilo Princip, was apprehended. Princip is said to be affiliated with the Serbian nationalist society Black Hand, which reportedly has ties to the Serbian government that is dedicated to uniting Bosnia with Serbia.
Concept note-2: -Unification or Death (Serbian: Ujedinjenje ili smrt, Serbian Cyrillic: ), popularly known as the Black Hand (Serbian: Crna ruka, Serbian Cyrillic: ), was a secret military society formed in 1901 by officers in the Army of the Kingdom of Serbia.
Concept note-3: -The Black Hand (Unification or Death) was formed by a ring of influential officers of the Serbian army, headed by Dragutin Dimitrijević (1876-1917), known as “Apis”, in May 1911.
Concept note-4: -The assassin – Gavrilo Princip – was a member of a Bosnian Serb nationalist group seeking to unite territories containing ethnic Serbs under Serbia’s control.
Concept note-5: -Officially known as Unification or Death, the Black Hand was founded by Serbian officers in 1911, with the aim of unifying South Slavs-including Bosnians, Slovenes and Croats in Austria-Hungary-into a Greater Serb or south Slavic (Yugoslav) state.
