Why did most of the combat on the Western Front in World War I take place in a relatively small area?

(A) Each side cut off the fuel supply of the other.

Concept note-2: -Trenches provided a very efficient way for soldiers to protect themselves against heavy firepower and within four months, soldiers on all fronts had begun digging trenches.

Concept note-3: -The First World War is often perceived as a war of attrition, a conflict in which each side tried to wear the other down by killing as many of its men as possible.

Concept note-4: -The majority of the fighting took place in Europe along two fronts: the western front and the eastern front. The western front was a long line of trenches that ran from the coast of Belgium to Switzerland. A lot of the fighting along this front took place in France and Belgium.
