Concept note-1: -How did Leopold II become famous? Although Leopold II established Belgium as a colonial power in Africa, he is best known for the widespread atrocities that were carried out under his rule, as a result of which as many as 10 million people died in the Congo Free State.

Concept note-2: -Inside the palatial walls of Belgium’s Africa Museum stand statues of Leopold II-each one a monument to the king whose rule killed as many as 10 million Africans.
