Concept note-1: -President Woodrow Wilson felt that the best solution was to incorporate his Fourteen Points. He thought that Germany should not be blamed for the war or punished too harshly.
Concept note-2: -Like most delegates, Lloyd George wanted to use the Treaty of Versailles to get advantages for his own country. In particular, he wanted to get trade going again (this was why he did not want Germany destroyed economically).
Concept note-3: -Treaty of Versailles Terms The Big Four themselves had competing objectives in Paris: Clemenceau’s main goal was to protect France from yet another attack by Germany. He sought heavy reparations from Germany as a way of limiting German economic recovery after the war and minimizing this possibility.
Concept note-4: -Clemenceau wanted to make sure that Germany could not invade France in the future. He was determined that Germany should be made to pay for the damage that had been caused in northern France by the invading German armies. In public Lloyd-George said he wanted to punish the Germans.
Concept note-5: -The French and British also disagreed about what to do with Germany. France wanted to punish Germany harshly, whereas Lloyd George did not want to punish Germany too harshly. This often came down to disagreements about how strong Germany should be in Europe.
