Concept note-1: -The biography for President Wilson and past presidents is courtesy of the White House Historical Association. Woodrow Wilson, a leader of the Progressive Movement, was the 28th President of the United States (1913-1921).
Concept note-2: -In this January 8, 1918, address to Congress, President Woodrow Wilson proposed a 14-point program for world peace. These points were later taken as the basis for peace negotiations at the end of World War I.
Concept note-3: -In an address to Congress, President Wilson lists his “14 Points” for a just and lasting peace. His objectives include the self-determination of nations, free trade, disarmament, a pact to end secret treaties, and a league of nations to realize collective security.
Concept note-4: -On July 10, 1919, the president of the United States, for the first time since 1789, personally delivered a treaty to the Senate. This was no ordinary treaty; it was the Treaty of Versailles, ending World War I and establishing the League of Nations.
Concept note-5: -It was Wilson’s goal to keep America completely out of World War I, which began in 1914-and have the country serve as a peacemaker to other nations. However, his efforts were largely unsuccessful; many countries failed to take seriously any of Wilson’s offers to be a mediator.
