Concept note-1: -It began with four permanent members – Great Britain, France, Italy, and Japan – and four non-permanent members that were elected by the Assembly for a three-year term. The first non-permanent members were Belgium, Brazil, Greece, and Spain.

Concept note-2: -The Council consisted of permanent and non-permanent members. In 1920, the four permanent members were the British Empire, France, Italy, and Japan. The non-permanent members were elected by the Assembly for a three-year term.

Concept note-3: -Between 1920 and 1939, a total of 63 countries became member states of the League of Nations.

Concept note-4: -The Council included four permanent members (Britain, France, Italy and Japan) and four (later nine) others elected by the General Assembly every three years.

Concept note-5: -By the end of 1934, League membership reached its highest level of 58 member states, however this was the year after the two primary aggressors of the Second World War, Germany and Japan, had left the League.
