EXPLANATIONS BELOW
Concept note-1: -Nansen was himself made responsible for resettling Greeks and Turks after the war between the two countries. In the last years of his life, he took up the Armenian cause. Between 1922 and 1942, 450 000 Nansen passports were issued. Nansen was awarded the 1922 Nobel Peace Prize.
Concept note-2: -The Nansen passport was a certificate issued by the Nansen International Office for Refugees as an international substitute for a passport, which allowed stateless persons or those deprived of their national passports to enter and transit other countries.
Concept note-3: -While Nansen passports are no longer issued, existing national and supranational authorities, including the United Nations, issue travel documents for stateless people and refugees, including certificates of identity (or “alien’s passports") and refugee travel documents.
