Concept note-1: -[count] : an action that is taken or an order that is given to force a country to obey international laws by limiting or stopping trade with that country, by not allowing economic aid for that country, etc.-usually plural. The United Nations has decided to impose trade/economic sanctions on the country.

Concept note-2: -International sanctions have become a key element in contemporary international relations. They are coercive measures applied against States, non-State entities or individuals that pose a threat to international peace and security.

Concept note-3: -Penal sanctions or punishments are imposed when a rule of national or international law is violated. The goals vary: to punish a guilty person, to protect the public order, or to solemnly reaffirm that the rule of law will survive violations thereof.
