Concept note-1: -The League of Nations (1920 – 1946) was the first intergovernmental organization established “to promote international cooperation and to achieve international peace and security”. It is often referred to as the “predecessor” of the United Nations.

Concept note-2: -The first meeting of the Council of the League took place on 16 January 1920, and the first meeting of Assembly of the League took place on 15 November 1920. In 1919, U.S. president Woodrow Wilson won the Nobel Peace Prize for his role as the leading architect of the League.

Concept note-3: -The League of Nations was a international organization founded after the Paris Peace Conference, 1919. The League’s goals included disarmament, preventing war through collective security, settling disputes between countries through negotiation diplomacy and improving global welfare.
