Concept note-1: -The Security Council of the United Nation provides the veto power to all the five permanent members . These members are the United States of America, France, Britain, China and Russia.
Concept note-2: -In the United Nations’ Security Council, decisions are made with a majority of 9 votes of the 15 Council members’ votes. All decision is rejected if one of the five permanent members of the Security Council (China, United States, France, United Kingdom, Russia) makes use of its veto.
Concept note-3: -The five countries with veto power within the United Nations include China, Russia, France, The United Kingdom, and the United States. These countries have the ability to veto a “substantive” resolution.
Concept note-4: -The five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council have the right to veto or say no to any substantive resolution. It’s also worth noting that a member’s abstention vote has no bearing on whether or not the resolution is accepted.
Concept note-5: -China has used the veto 16 times, with the first one, on 14 December 1955 (S/3502), cast by the Republic of China (ROC) and the remaining 13 by the People’s Republic of China after it succeeded ROC as a permanent member on 25 October 1971.
