LEAGUE OF NATIONS

[SOURCES]
What were the problems with the League’s trade sanctions on Italy? (Pick three correct answers)

(A) ** The League was banned from selling arms to Abyssinia. This left Abyssinia defenceless against Mussolini’s modern army.

(B) Italy decided to ignore these trade sanctions.

(C) ** It took two months to decide what else to ban Italy from trading with other countries.

(D) ** The ban on goods sold to Italy did not include oil, steel, iron or coal. If they had been banned then Mussolini would have had to stop his invasion as he needed these to fuel war machines like tanks.

Concept note-2: -In 1935 the League of Nations imposed sanctions on Italy in order to make her discontinue her aggression towards Ethiopia.

Concept note-3: -In response to Ethiopian appeals, the League of Nations condemned the Italian invasion in 1935 and voted to impose economic sanctions on the aggressor. The sanctions remained ineffective because of general lack of support.
